Today, after months of hard work, planning, and preparation, I held the reception for my first art show at a gallery. Nobody showed up. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I tried to arrange my first gallery exhibition as a photography student. Not even my mother wants to come. FML
Everyone's a critic
Today, it was my first big time art show. To celebrate I went out to lunch with some people whose work was also there. When we got back, police were everywhere. Someone had broken in and stolen all of the art. All except mine. Even burglars don't want my art. FML
Today, in art class, everybody was showing the paintings that we have been working on for weeks. Everyone was cheering and clapping. When mine came up, nobody clapped. FML
Great party, eh?
Today, my girlfriend and I threw a housewarming party we'd been planning for almost 2 months. Out of the 30 plus people I invited from work, literally nobody showed up. Not going to lie, I'm a little depressed about it. It's going to be hard to go to work and pretend I'm not upset. FML
So, thanks for having me
Today, I found out the presentation I've been looking forward to and preparing for months only has three people registered to attend. I'll be talking to an empty room for an hour. FML
Today, one of my paintings was accepted into a local art gallery. It would've been a dream come true, had my "best friend" not submitted it under her own name and taken all the credit. FML
Today, there was a baby shower for our first child. My hostess invited 75 people. Only 3 people showed up. FML
Many such cases
Today, I organised a birthday party for myself. There was supposed to be about 20 people coming. Not a single person showed up. FML
Today, everyone at work was demanding I stage a party at my house. I agreed to it and rushed home to tidy up before the guests arrived. No one showed up. FML
Anyway, here's Wonderwall…
Today, I invited everyone to a gig I'm playing at a bar. They closed it down just for me when I told them how many people were attending, and I spent all day setting it up. Turns out nobody showed up besides my mom, my dad, and 2 of my cousins. I still had to play 7 songs in front of them. FML

As an art major, my heart breaks for you. Couldn't your family or friends or boy/girlfriend at least have had the decency to show up?

Marketing and Advertisement!!! It's awesome that you planned ahead and found a great venue... but if no one knows about it, no one will show up

Did you serve free food and wine? A few people should have showed up for that!

That art degree was definitely worth it.

This is my biggest fear as an artist! I would suggest getting a few close friends and family to help you next time so you know for sure at least they will be there! I would've loved to go OP! Don't let it discourage you!

Sorry to hear that OP. I would love to see your work but live in another country. If you have a link to some of your work, I'd love to see that :)

:( That sucks. Hang in there op. It takes awhile to start drawing crowds. Keep at it. You'll get there

I don't know much about the art business but I would think that there is a chance that will happen if your not a known art gallery person. But I agree with the other post your friend and family should have at least come to show you some support.
