Sorry for your loss

Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I had to put my cat to sleep after she was in an accident. While I was crying hysterically, the vet asked me for $230. FML
Today, I took my 17 year-old dog, who had been my best friend my entire life right from when I was born, to be euthanised. I had booked in advance. The vet ambled in all spritely and cheerfully asked, "Just here for a checkup, aye?" FML
Today, I was playing with my dog, teasing her, to cheer myself up after being dumped by my girlfriend. My dog bit me hard and I had to go to hospital. The dog has to be put down. FML
Today, I had to put my 12 year-old dog down because he had dementia. I was told I got to lay on the floor with him, and say when I was ready. The vet brought my dog out on a stretcher, had the vet tech put him in a choke-hold, and administered the drugs before I could speak. Now, I have PTSD and she has to undergo sensitivity training. FML
Today, I saved a kitten from the streets, cleaned her up and asked the vet what I should do with her because she was the sweetest thing and my cat has a highly contagious illness. The vet had to put her down. FML
Today, my cat was hit by a car. I took it to the vet expecting the worst but they told me that she’d be fine. I was so happy I didn't even mind paying the $50 bill. The next morning my cat was dead. Having her put down humanely would have cost $45, I paid $5 extra to have her die in my kitchen. FML
Today, I had to explain to my boss that the reason I was sobbing hysterically as she told me that I was getting a pay raise was because I was going to the vet to have my sick and dying cat put down. Good news at a bad time. FML
Today, after spending $15,000 to treat my dog's cancer over the past two months, he died of kidney failure. FML
Today, I was taking out the trash and I came upon a bill from a veterinary hospital. It was for $50 and it was a bill to put my dog down. My Dad said my dog was missing and I put hundreds of signs around the city. FML
Today, my idiot sister had to have her aged dog put down, then she posts on MY Facebook page, "RIP, Buddy, we'll miss you." My adult children and most of my friends thought I died. FML

Some things are too personal or painful to discuss on line - This is one of those. It was not wise to bring this up online. As you have found there are those who cannot conceive of doing what is necessary in your situation (and cannot imagine that they would ever be in that situation). You have my sympathy, that is never an easy decision to make when you love your pet.

Actually, the two times I had to put beloved dogs down, it was an easy decision. They were suffering with no chance of recovery. It was hard to bear, but I felt I did my best for them.

How would this get online? The vet's office wouldn't broadcast your inquiry. I'm guessing you went on social media and brought up this issue publicly. In that case, YDI.

I mean, it’s both hard and easy at the same time, and the reason for both is because you love them. You love them selfishly, so you don’t want them to go, but you also love them selflessly, so you’re don’t want them to suffer.

I have a friend who has to put her dog to sleep, she started a fund, no criticism but she still gets misty eyed over losing her dog. It's a rough thing to go through.

Yeah at first I thought you meant you got crucified by the vet staff, I was about to say to say throw them under the bus cuz that’s unprofessional. But then i saw “online”, condolences for your sitch, but that’s on you for asking on their public page. Call or email would have been the way to go.

So sorry you're going through this. I had to put my dog down 2 weeks ago today. He was 3 years past his life expectancy, had hip dysplasia, arthritis in all joints, and cancer in his leg. Making that decision is never easy. People need to show more compassion. It cost me $815 to have a vet come to my house to do the deed, take his remains to the crematorium, and to get his mailed ashes back to me. I think size makes a difference, too. My boy was around 100 lbs.

It's so sad that your vet is on death's door. On the other hand, maybe you could sneak your dog into the Vet's coffin and save a bit of cash.
