Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I'm not going to our family Christmas party due to events last year that caused me to cut off contact with one of my sisters. My entire family is now making me out to be the villain to my 8 year-old, and trying to manipulate my decision with guilt trips. They have reduced me to tears 12 days in a row. FML
Today, I went to my uncle’s funeral. Later, I found out that his irresponsible idiot of a daughter had COVID, knew she had COVID, and not only showed up anyway, but didn’t bother to wear a mask, and went out of her way to go around hugging people. FML
Today, my brother refused to bring his kids to a small family get together for my daughter’s birthday, due to his fear of Covid. Later, I saw online that he was at a huge party for his wife’s family, no masks in sight. When I confronted him, he blocked me and won’t return my calls. FML
Today, my daughter asked to go to a party and I said no, because I know some of the other people going and they're bad news. She then said she only asked permission as a courtesy, and is going anyway and just left. She lives with me but she did turn 18 last week, and I don’t know what to do. FML
Today, I got into THE party of the year. Too bad it was the party my daughter was throwing while her father and I were out of town. FML
Today, I picked up my 5 year-old son for Christmas break. We were on the way to the airport, talking about Santa and what we were going to do over the break when my fiancée called to tell me that she had been exposed to Covid-19. I took him home to his mom's and missed my flight. FML
Today, my mother bitched me out for not coming to my sister's birthday tomorrow. She's 25 and lives at home, and she, my mother, and father all have Covid. FML
Today, as planned, my dad confirmed that he would be flying up to visit me for the weekend. Not planned, however, was that my whiny and high-maintenance sister invited herself along too. There's no way I can dis-invite her without offending my dad. FML
Today, my niece came to visit from out of town. It's also the day my partner tested positive for Covid. To minimize contact, I told her I would take her to the train station while he isolates. She refused. She then spent the day sitting as close to me as possible, hoping I was a carrier. She WANTED to catch it. FML
Today, we celebrated our daughter's sixth birthday. Out of the 30 invited, 7 showed up. The last one to cancel this morning told us she was ill. My daughter was in tears as this meant the last remaining playmate couldn't come. My wife later saw her tagged on Facebook at another party. FML

I assume since you expressed it the way you did that you didn’t go but daughter did? That implies to me that daughter is probably old enough to decide what family gatherings she want to go to… It’s fine if you want to cut your sister out of your life for whatever reasons you have. But it’s not acceptable to expect your daughter to want to do that too unless your sister (her aunt) is an actual danger to your daughter. Keep the family drama to yourself instead of expecting everyone around you to act exactly like you… My mom has wasted most of her life on and off feuding with her younger sister. It was a complete waste of time and effort. They can both be a bit over-dramatic at times but each is basically a good person. My wife has done the same with her one and only sibling, her older sister - That’s another waste of effort and time. Keep your feuding to yourself. It’s bad enough to waste so much time and effort on something like this - For God’s sake don’t waste others time and effort on this. Nobody says you have to spend time with someone you really don’t like, family or not. What’s over the top is to expect those around you to carry that attitude.

If the dreaded aunt shows up with Covid, she is a real danger. The daughter could be infected, not show any symptoms, and pass it to her mom who will be sick as a dog who ate chocolate.

That was definitely to get you out of the picture.
