Do Not Pass Go
Today, I started at a new college. I bought my textbooks and went to my first class only to find out that they changed my schedule without telling me. I'd already opened the book. I could not get $200 back. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I bought my very first college textbook. I received a stack of hole-punched papers. My $195 "book" isn’t even bound together. FML
Today, my first day of college, the textbooks I ordered a month in advance still haven't arrived. My first class of the semester is College Readiness. FML
Today, the first day of school, I went to the book store to purchase my textbooks. Not only did I wait for 30 minutes, but they didn’t even have my books in stock. I was advised to visit another campus 45 minutes away. They didn’t have it either. I have assignments due already. FML
Today, I found out that I was never actually enrolled in the class I've been attending all semester. I guess that explains why I only got $400 dollars in student aid, not the 1,200 they said I'd get. FML
Today, I went to my first class of the semester. After an hour of intense note writing, I realized I was in the wrong class. FML
Today, using the money my mom gave me for my birthday, I bought a new laptop for school. When I went online to register for classes, I found that all the online classes were full and remaining classes didn't qualify for my major. FML
Today, I checked my university financial account to discover I owed them over $1000. The reason? They had apparently given me too much money when I applied for a loan and now want it back. Oh, and I spent my loan money on books and a laptop for school. FML
Today, I bought a textbook for my college class. Not only is the £150 book only sold by our teacher, it turned out to be a piece of shit that he obviously wrote, printed, and stapled together at home. When I went to the faculty about it, I was told it's all perfectly legal, and to drop it. FML
Today, I went to the local used books store to sell all my college textbooks. I spent several hundred dollars on them in total. I ended up walking out of the shop a pathetic $3.50 richer. FML
Today, I left for college. I spent hundreds of dollars on clothes, bedding and other things. After packing my entire closet and everything else I needed, I left only to have to head back home. My dad forgot to pay the first semesters tuition. He said "Oh well, you would have failed out anyway." FML

Average New Jersey tuition: $15,355. Useless textbook: $200. Joy of getting an FML published: priceless. And $15,555.

Learned that lesson myself a couple years ago. Tip: don't open them until after the first week because you may not even need them if the instructor doesn't have control over the booklist, but has control over the class.

It could have been worse $200 for a textbook to get the code to go into the chatroom and never use the textbook

What college changes your schedule for you? That in itself is bizarre

Pro tip: Always try to have your book by the second class (for obvious reasons) but if it's shrinkwrapped or something, don't open it until classes begin.

As a college staff member and alumni, NEVER open your book until the first day of class. Sometimes teachers let you buy an older version of the book, or sometimes, they use their own powerpoints. I've even seen it where the student needed an access code that only comes bundled. Now they have two books and they can't sell either without the access code.

You can sell it on campus for even $10 off because there will be at least one person who won't mind the discount and if so, do not sell it for less than that since there will be a negotiation. Now if you are not tight on money and will be taking the course another semester, you can just keep the textbook until then. With college, never buy textbooks until after the first lecture because what happened to you can happen again, and there are times when a new edition is released and your course requires you to have the latest edition.
