Today, I was telling my friends that I'd gotten a paid position to cover a worker's bereavement leave for the next three weeks. They then called me an insensitive bitch for "profiting from someone else's misfortune." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my boss claimed that I've been lying to get days off because apparently nobody can be so unlucky as to have three family members die within a month. I'm just that unlucky, and suspended. FML
Today, my boss is such an unfeeling asshole that he seriously thought he could demand I only stay at my best friend's funeral for 45 minutes then return to work, because it was “just a friend, not a relative', and that when his mother died he "took a whole 2 hours off and was back at work by 11:45.” FML
Today, after I let my job know I needed time off for a friend's funeral a week ahead of time and they declined to approve it, telling me to call in sick, the day of the funeral arrived and I called in sick, only to come back to a write-up and threats of being fired for not getting it approved in advance. FML
Today, I was supposed to attend my best friend's funeral. When I asked my boss for time off, she actually said friends don't justify having the day off, unlike say a blood relative. My boss is autistic, so she struggles to understand certain things, but even for her that was a real prick thing to say. FML
Today, I ran into my boss when I was at the beach. He told me he was sorry for my loss. I asked him, "What loss?" Then I remembered I’d lied about taking time off under the pretense of bereavement of my grandmother passing away. FML
Today, I took a week off work because my father passed away. I was at the funeral home making arrangements when I overheard the owners complaining about how their insurance agent had left them to fend for themselves. I'm their insurance agent. FML
Today, my best friend rang me to complain about having to pay childcare fees when she's still working from home. She doesn't understand why I couldn't sympathize with what she was going through. Clearly she forgot I'm a childcare worker who would like to be paid for the work I do. FML
Today, a friend asked me to cover his shift at work because his grandmother died. Like any decent friend, I obliged. Later, after leaving, I walked by a bar and saw him inside, laughing and doing shots with all of our friends. FML
Today, after I requested a sick day, a very close co-worker texted her boyfriend that I'm a bitch for pretending to have the same rare illness that she recently suffered. She said it was unlikely, disrespectful and unfair that I didn't even look sick. I know this because she texted me instead. FML
Today, I was at work, reading some funny stories on my phone. Just as one of my co-workers decided to share that his father had passed away recently, I burst into uncontrollable, teary-eyed laughter at a story. They don't believe my explanation, and have branded me the office asshole. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?

Nice friends you have there, OP. Just ignore them, it's your job so it's not their concern.

You're a good coworker to cover for someone for three weeks. Don't listen to your friends.

That is ******! Did you tell them you're only temporarily covering the position until he/she gets back? You need new friends!

Also tell them that if you didn't cover the position, the boss would have a lot of work not being done (losing money) and the coworker would come back after a hard & emotional time to mounds of work and paperwork! Your friends sound stupid op. Try and explain it to them nice and slowly adding that if you didn't do it someone else would have to & that it's actually helping the coworker out. If they still don't get it, just ignore them because they obviously can't comprehend the situation.

Unless you killed the person's loved one knowing you would get the job it's not really your fault. You need some more supportive friends

Maybe I read it wrong, but I took it as a temp job the way OP worded it.

I think you're right. Either way the OP is helping the person out. So good job for her.

I apologize on your friends' behalf for being so stupid. How could they all come to the same conclusion? I'm surprised no one backed you up. Depending on how many friends were there I guess.

You have two options: "Sorry boss, but my friends say I'm an insensitive bitch for taking this three week job offer. Therefore, because I don't have a spine, I'll quit instead." Or; "My dear judgmental friends, kindly go back to your burger flipping jobs and mind yourself."

Your friend is a dumb bitch.... Sorry for the loss, hope things work out .
devildog562 33
Read it as your loss for some reason. Either way you should feel good for helping out.

I liked your comment because it implied the loss of these idiot friends, by OP dumping their ignorant asses. You came off pretty sharp there, to me, buddy.

everyone knows one man's loss is another's gain, even if it wasn't the intention. it's not your fault they're paying you, and someone has to cover it!
