This FML is from back in 2015 but it's good stuff

Creepy dude
Today, a guy called me out of the blue. Apparently, he'd copied my number from a sheet we'd filled out in church. He doesn't understand why I'm "overreacting". FML

He had the courage to call. He took a chance, why not do the same for him. It may be a little odd but im sure he was too shy to talk face to face

To everyone saying he's not creepy or there's such a thing as phone books, the FML part isn't that he got her phone number that way; it's that he thinks her being unhappy about how he went around getting her number is her over reacting. Clearly, he's being a creep because he doesn't understand how she could find this upsetting. Non creeps would apologize for upsetting her and move on, not accuse her of over reacting.

But you don't know how she reacted. I would consider it "overreacting" too if she were screaming "STALKER! OH MY GOD YOU TERRIBLE CREEP!" into the phone.

Not seeing the big deal. I get calls from people that take my number off of rosters all the time. I guess I might have found it scary when I was younger. Granted, that's how I ended up with one of my exes. Granted.... That's how I ended up with one of my exes...

And why are those sheets or whatever accessible to everyone?

People saying this isn't weird, mentioning phone books and so on. The number was written down for something church related, not for someone else to contact her. I get very upset when people share my phone number without permission, even more if someone saw it on a piece of a paper and decided to message me. You ASK someone for their number. It's creepy, no matter the intentions. OP should have a meeting with the person and the elders, and discuss how OP is not comfortable and how it isn't acceptable. A few years back I was VERY upset when someone put my cell phone number in the directory, and I only found out when a creeper in the youth group wouldn't stop texting me. Some people aren't as open as others. Respect privacy, people!

Not sure why people don't see it was creepy. He got her number without her ever giving consent and hoped randomly calling and or texting is ok? If you are too shy to ask the person for their number don't do it.

Its not creepy... its kind, and you ARE overreacting... Clearly he's interested in you and he went out of his way to get in touch with you. If you are not interested, tell him so. If he continues to "harass" you report him. Chill out.
