Today, I learned that I can work out for over an hour a day, cut my daily calories by almost half, keep careful track of my diet, drink nothing but water, and not lose a pound. But I can sure as hell gain weight after one dinner at a buffet. FML

How long have you been on your new diet/workout plan? Have you been keeping track of your measurements? You do know new muscle weighs more than lost fat, right? and if you weighed yourself the same day as your buffet, the added weight is just food in your intestines. Why do people always associate successful health plans with numbers on a scale?

How long have you been dieting? If you really haven't lost any weight perhaps you should see a doctor.

you can easily loose inches & not 1 pound. I did but inches are a HUGE deal!

Don't lose hope. There are plenty of ways to lose weight. Some people eat small meals every four hours instead of three huge meals. Exercise (aerobics) before you eat to increase the burning of calories. And keep a diary of everything you eat. You'd be surprise with how many calories a sneak here and there could add up to. If all else fails, speak to your doctor to see what else could be done. Not everyone's body react the same way.

I feel you there. I've been lifting and eating right for almost 2 years now and I haven't dropped a pound from 300. Only change is that I have gained muscle. So don't focus so much about the weight factor; look at how your body feels overall.

If you're staying dedicated to your diet and burning a set amount of calories each time you exercise this shouldn't be happening... it's a simple formula... taking in less calories + exercise (burning more calories than ingesting) = weight loss... so I suggest you change your diet again because you might be taking in more calories than you think and if you're cheating... STOP

If you are eating at a buffet, you are in denial about cutting your calories and keeping careful track of your diet. Quit lying to yourself like you've been lying to us. If you want to lose weight, stop ******* around and get real about doing it. Buffets are off-limits until you can control yourself (which may never happen.)

Just because they had a cheat meal, it does not mean they're in denial and not doing everything right the rest of the time. I'm on a strict diet plan and if I don't have an occasional cheat meal I'll lose my mind. Not only that, but a cheat meal every now and then so drastically different from how you've been eating on your diet will reset your metabolism and help you lose more weight than sticking to nothing but the diet 100% of the time.

Reynshine, I don't call it a cheat meal, but I stick to my diet 6-1/2 days a week. After I weigh in on Saturday, all bets are off for the rest of the day. Ive lost about 50 lbs they way and am coming up on the one year anniversary if reaching my goal. I seriously doubt the OP was following as good a plan as I was (and as diligently), otherwise she would have earned the right for an occasional indulgence.

That's what my boyfriend's brother does. He has one day a week when he'll eat a lot, but he works out every day (he's kind of obsessive about it, to be honest) and everything, and he's very in shape. I don't know if science supports that theory, but it seems to work perfectly well for him.

have to train your body and make life style changes doesn't happen overnight. also you should only weight yourself once a week

Not true. I'm on a diet plan that requires me to weigh in 3x a week. As long as I don't have a single cheat, I weigh less at every weigh in.

You can gain weight from one meal from the scale's perspective. Not only is the food in your system, all the added sodium from it makes you retain water which causes your weight to seem higher on the scale.
