This happened to me also, I unplugged my ipod without properly ejecting it and the entire thing was unusable and I had to reset it. I however didn't lose all my music because there are ways that you can hack into you ipod and extract the files even if it doesn't work. Look online to find out how.
YDI for referring to what sounds like HDD failure as a "crash".
Actually, #171, yes you can as long as the HDD is not physically damaged. Also, OP, it's only 3000 songs. Get over it.
186 - that's assuming the OP purchased the songs...
OP, the same thing happened to me and I just emailed the apple support group and told them about my situation, and they gave me all of my music, tv shows, and movies back. Next time just save all of your files on a backup disc. But what I don't get is, usually iTunes asks you if you want to transfer the purchases or erase and sync. Obviously you clicked transfer purchases, so why would the songs be erased if your brother accidentally discontinued the syncing?
it would have happened anyways. you cant sync songs from your iPod to your computer. There are security measures placed on them so that you cant do that. no matter what they would have been lost. and now you know to always back up your stuff
213 is correct. Apple tries to keep you from syncing your ipod to your computer, but anyone who knows anything about computers can easily get around that.
I bet you'll buy an external now. Back that shit up...it's honestly a lifesaver.
That sucks. One time I accidentally deleted all 3,500 songs from my Zune library. Thank God for Flash Drives, though.

through the apple store you can re-download your purchases up to 3 times. there's how-to's all over the internet, good luck!!
invest in an external hard drive for backing your stuff up.
