Some companies have policies to contact the police if theres any threats rather than trying to resolve it themselves

You may have thought it was no big deal, but that is not am appropriate thing to say, especially not at work. Perhaps the cops were a little much, but your manager has every right to take unprofessionalism like that seriously.

that's how it always is, people can do anything to you & no one sees it, but when you do the slightest thing, like in your case mumble, people see it & think it's the worst thing you ever did. BS.

In my opinion I think the manager could've talked to OP instead of bringing the police into this matter. After all I believe we have all met a person that managed to get on our nerves and have made a murderous threat for such person.

That's not a threat because technically everyone COULD murder anyone if they had the right tools. If you said "I'm going to kill you." That would be a threat. I hope you explained that to the cops

It's okay when I was working at lil cessars pizza my manager told out boss that his girlfriends babby daddy was gonna come up and fight him. My boss then said "Don't do anything to him or your fired! That same night 5 minutes before closing two guys come in with bandanas over there heads and hit my manager in the face with the cros bar. I grabed a knofe as a reaction to protect me and the next day I was fired for walking jim out with a knife pressed in his back. Only they did go to jail tho.

I feel for you and that sucks that they would report you instead of talking to you but you shouldn't say things like that that others could hear it's kinda unprofessional you shoulda just thought it :p
