Today, I went to my guidance counselor and told her how I'd been fascinated with space since I was 12, had read about the universe and everything, and how I want to be an astrologist when I grow up. She stared at me for a second, before saying, "But you're... stupid." FML

Your counselor probably had a point. If you were interested in space you would want to be an astronomer, not an astrologist.

Yeah, it's not astrology. Astrologists don't have a job. It isn't a profession. Nevertheless, your guidance counselor should have the professionalism to correct you, then help you. Tons of people make that mistake. Like optometrist and ophthalmologist.

It's really not his fault. People get the wrong impression about several things and hold on to that thought because so far, no one has corrected them. It's just the way that we gather information. And you really can't expect someone to verify information that he or she is already sure of. I mean, if he didn't know what astronomy was, yeah, it'd be his fault. But perhaps he thought astronomy and astrology were synonyms. Give him a break. It's a laughable error, but I agree, his life is F***ed.

Wow... Astrology isn't studying space... that's like... fortune telling, etc...... So... I'd say it was a fairly accurate assessment on your counselor's part...

While the 'adult' you were speaking to was unprofessional - you have to understand the stupidity of your comment. Think about what you're saying before you speak or get a pocket dictionary.

I hope this has taught you that you not knowing the name of your "dream profession" falls into the catagory of being stupid. High five to your counselor.

You ARE stupid. You said 'astrology' instead of 'astronomy'. but the counselor isn't to bright either.. so now instead of just a counselor telling you you're stupid.. the whole damn internet is telling you you're stupid.

If that's true, you can (and should) get her fired.

I'm an astronomy major and I think you're stupid for mixing up astronomy and astrology. Just saying.

If you actually want to be an astrologer, then you're probably gullible and stupid, or else a charlatan and a douchebag. If you want to be an astronomER, then yeah, it's pretty unprofessional of her to call you that just for making a small error.
