Funny thing is, some cars have a security measure that doesn't allow one to unlock it through the window. I tried this on my sister's lexus once and nearly had my arm amputated by the window whilst the alarm was frantically screaming at me.

You know - I just can't even remotely believe this one. The only plausible explanation for it being true is the guy wasn't at his car at any point in that hour period (which means, unlike the rest of the human race, he didn't go out to jiggle the handles not even once).

I hope AAA revokes your membership for wasting their time. There is no possible way you could have not known the window was down, so stop making prank calls to AAA.
