today... my professer told us everyone would get extra credit if we handed in a 20 word "essay" on what life means to us. I wrote the most heart-felt, sincere essay I have ever wrote in my life... he said he can't give me extra credit because it was to depressing...FML

Uh, that's not something he can co. You met the criteria of the assignment? Then he has to give you the credit, regardless of him finding it depressing. I would talk to him about it one more time, and then take it to his immediate supervisor- either head of the department or the dean if he is the department head. Seriously, him doing that is like entering a competition and getting disqualified for wearing a yellow shirt, because the judge doesn't like the color.
