Today, my extended family came over for Christmas. I forgot to get a present for my extremely sensitive aunt. I took a gift from my re-gift pile and wrapped it quickly. Little did I remember that it was the same gift she gave me last year. She noticed. FML

Today, for my mom's birthday, I couldn't figure out what to get her, so I just took some of her jewelry, wrapped it up, and re-gifted it. She recognized it instantly. FML

Today, I went to my son's friend's birthday party and felt really proud of giving a great gift. It just so happened that I regifted the same gift that his friend's mother gave to my son the month before, because I forgot to check the name on the bag. It looked like she was about to faint. FML

Today, after I spent quite some time getting thoughtful gifts for my friend and her kids ahead of their visit, she made a big fuss about how she'd "forgotten" to bring the gift she'd bought for me. Later, she casually admitted that she'd intentionally not bought me anything because she, "didn't think I'd need it." FML

When I asked her where she had gotten it, she said, "Oh, just some crap someone gave me once." She didn't even remember that I had given it to her. FML

Wow, I never knew re-gifting was such a thing that people actually have re-gift piles/methods of knowing who gave them stuff so they don't re-gift it to them... I would honestly be ashamed to re-gift something... even if if was something completely useless or strange from your dotty old aunt with alzheimers.

One birthday my mom opened a present her sister got her and said "Funny, I gave a fountain just like this to mom for her birthday." and my aunt laughed and said "Mom gave me this fountain for my birthday..." My family's so bad about regifting that it's not uncommon for things like this to happen, and yes, my mother did gift the fountain back to my grandma.
