Today my daughter called me. I miss her dearly and have been sad, feeling that she is keeping a big distance between us. So I eagerly listened to the voicemail, in which she said she called just to wish me happy birthday. My birthday is in 10 days. FML

Maybe try calling her, instead of waiting for her to call you, and ask why she doesn't call you more often? Try to make it part of your weekly routine or biweekly routine to call her on the same days and time of day. Like every other Thursday at 16:00, or the 14th and 28th of every month at 10:00. You have her number, you can call her just as easily as she can call you, especially if you miss her that much. You might even be able to call her more easily than she can call you- college students tend to have very little time to spare, if any, especially if they are an extrovert and HAVE to spend some time around peers in order to 'recharge.' She also might think you are enjoying the freedom of not having a kid in the house and not want to ruin it for you.
