Today, my clinical instructor told me to stop being so negative, to get over myself, and to focus on nursing school. I'm only distracted because 3 days ago I was told I might have colon cancer. FML

Colon cancer is highly treatable. My grandmother had it in the 1970's and lived another 40 years.

hey op, as a nurse, I know you must be going through hell in nursing school. Please stay positive and talk to your instructor, they might be about to help. good luck, hope you get better.

I'm sorry :( it's so hard when others don't put themselves in your shoes and just make assumptions. BUT cancer is curable, and I'm not talking about radiation. Watch lectures by Dr Richard Shultz and the documentaries The Gerson Miracle and The Beautiful Truth.

scary thought, however - key word is MIGHT. The fact that someone from your class noticed your change in behavior only leads me to believe you ARE being over dramatic about a POSSIBILITY. so yeah - YDI

If like you say, Op's change in behaviour was noticed then why didn't the instructor ask what had changed with Op? Sorry but I don't see how Op deserves it.

Over dramatic about the possibility of being diagnosed with a form of cancer? I suppose since OP is training as a nurse OP better get used to telling patients to suck it up also as they "might" not be ill too?

scolding someone for their mental distress over the possibility of cancer is my new sociopath test

Hearing a doctor say this kind of thing is like playing Russian roulette, only instead of getting the results instantaneously you get to wait weeks or months for the results.

Being an asshole and saying you deserve it is a terrible thing to say. You deserve an award for the biggest insensitive asshole award. You are what's wrong with this world.

you sure are quick to assume that the instructor didn't ask. & I still stand strong that they did it themselves - ALL of us MIGHT have cancer, STDs, brain tumors, etc - should I just start feeling sorry for everyone? Don't sweat it until it's confirmed...otherwise you're just causing unnecessary stress. My pathetic mother is an attention seeking ***** & she went around telling everyone she had cancer - got all the sympathy - whole time it was nothing. She KNEW it wasn't confirmed, but that didn't stop her from telling her woe is me story. & to this day, I still question of the whole thing wasn't just made up & she only claimed the results came back negative to back out of her lie...but anyway...

#47. Here's the difference, OP isn't being an attention seeking ***** and going around telling everyone they have cancer. And that wasn't even the main point of the FML. The FML was about OP's instructor noticing their change of behavior and stressing; and instead of asking if everything was ok they just told OP to get over.

Everyone might having a disease and a doctor telling you that you might have it is completely different. Your story has someone going around claiming to have cancer when it wasn't sure. Op is just stressing silently and being told to get over it. They aren't going around telling anyone they have it. You are letting your feelings about your mother cloud your judgement and putting op in the same bubble as her despite them being totally different.

#47 it doesn't really matter if the instructor asked or not. Colon cancer is a terrible thing. I watch my father wither away to nothing as he was battling Colon cancer and when he thought it couldn't get any worse, it spread to his liver. He died at the age of 45, so no, OP is not being overly dramatic and I still stand with you're in an insensitive asshole who needs a clue.

@#52nd - OP specifically said her instructor told her to quit being so negative...so chances are she WAS going around telling everyone. All of you that think it's ok to jump to conclusions & stress over shit while receiving sympathy for something that isn't even confirmed - YOU are what's wrong with the world...& I'm betting you also believe in participation awards too. Get over yourself...buck up.

I'd just like to point out this is a Murse (male nurse) in training posting this. Kick cancers ass dude!

That's a reason to be distracted... Prayers going out to OP...who's with me?

OP, you are in my prayers. I pray that it is merely a cancer scare and not actual cancer. Cancer is not an automatic death sentence like it once was so you fight.

Might.. It's a small word with a lot of Hope... Be positive OP and I do hope it turns out well for you.
