Today, my 8-year-old came home from school crying. Apparently her teacher told the whole class to write about how they felt when they learned that Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy weren't real. FML

even worse. my 5 year old nephew had the same experience. his teacher had the same assignment and got the whole class in tears because they all still believed in santa

My sisters are ten and they still believe, so that was a major bitchmove.

what teacher could be that heartless? don't they realize that kids still believe!

Im thirteen and still believe! Adds fun to xmas lol

my 16 year old friend just found out, yet I'm the immature one.

That's a horrible thing to do to a group of maybe 3rd graders... Well hope he/she gets over it

Everyone had to grow up sooner or later. Them finding out is no big deal. Ruined childhood? Really? You people are ******* stupid.

I like to pretend that Christmas is really the birth of Santa and not Jesus or God, whom I find much harder to believe in than Santa Claus. :p

Too damn early, i did not find out until middle school age 12, and my parents told me, everyone wonders why kids grow up so fast, its crap like this, destroying their childhoods

I don't get how finding out Santa isn't real is such a traumatic event for kids. I don't even remember being told. It's not like discovering Santa doesn't exist means they stop getting presents.

I think children are more upset that their parents found it necessary to lie to them about mythological beings. At least, that's what happened with me; as a result, I developed trust issues with my parents. I stopped believing when I was 10 (yeah, I know I'm a schmuck) when I discovered my wrapped presents in my mom's closet, but I really had no doubts until I found them hidden away that year. I still don't understand why parents feel that pretending that a generous person exists is needed for children, unless they're trying to teach children about having a cruel sense of humor, but, at the very least, children should be taught that generosity has no time limit or deadline, and that it should be celebrated and observed year-round. If I ever decide to have kids, I'll tell them that Santa Claus did exist, but he only existed as a pious Saint Nicholas in Europe and didn't travel the world delivering presents, much less all in one night. He gave poor people presents and dowries to teach them how to pay it forward and to have some hope and faith in humanity, so parents give their children, family members, and (if they're hardcore) less-fortunate people in their community presents in order to honor his spirit, generosity, and love for his fellow man. Bonus points if you set a good example by taking your kids with you to deliver presents or volunteer for a charity. I know I'm no fun, but that's just me.

ik I know something was off at 5 but didn't know what is was until idk but I think the traumatic was not telling from you parents

Good teacher. I enjoy someone who keeps things in reality. Kids really shouldn't be fed such stupid lies.

What the duck kind of .... I can't even. Bitch.
