Today, is the third day after quitting the opiates I was prescribed after facial surgery cold turkey. After the unrelenting vomiting and chills brought on by withdrawal, I’m starting to understand why people get addicted to this stuff. FML

First, if you’re prescribed it why are you not taking it. Second, quitting a drug cold turkey is always much harder than slowly lowering the amount you take to zero.

I was prescribed oxy for pain to be taken only as I needed it and was instructed to switch to acetaminophen as soon as the pain was tolerable, while I could have taken half a pill for a couple days to ease the transition I wanted to get it over and done with. I have a consistent stomach problem that I’ve had for about 5 years and I can handle a lot of nausea and pain, but I understand how people who aren’t used to feeling so sick would keep taking the drugs to a point of abuse to keep from feeling it again.
