Today, I was resting in bed with a broken foot and my candle set off my fire alarm, waking up my whole family. While I am unable to reach up and turn it off, it went off for several minutes. Now, everyone is angry at me. FML.

Why did you have a candle going if your whole household was sleeping?

Candles are never good news. It's a live fire. If dust bunnies or anything falls into it, it could ignite and grow quickly. Or if it falls, hot wax could burn you or the flame could burn what it falls on. I know it sounds dramatic but I study fire and I see the silliest reasons for fires starting. Cover it when you put it out so the smoke doesn't go in the smoke detector. Maybe for safety reasons since you're unable to walk, but some fake flickering ones for the time being. If a real fire did happen, you wouldn't be able to run out of the house.

If your foot is broke and you were the one trying to keep everything calm and keep them happy then YOU should be mad at THEM they have no right to be mad at you for something you couldn't have prevented.

gotta trim those wicks...candles setting off smoke detectors is not normal.
