Being an "asshole" implies intent. He may have been very busy during their actual anniversary and gotten confused or he may just be forgetful in general. My husband and I both often forget landmark dates in our relationship. Neither of us does it intentionally. Sometimes I just get really sucked into a project (especially during practical trials) and am either too preoccupied or just plain exhausted to remember. He's just a space cadet in general.
