Today, I opened up to my parents about my suicidal thoughts and that I kept weapons in my room in case things got too bad. Instead of taking me to the hospital, they expect me to sleep with them each night. I'm 18. FML.

I feel like if op had real suicidal tendencies he wouldn't be posting about it on this app. that's not an Fml or a cry for help it's a way to get attention. just saying.

They're ignoring the fact that OP needs more comprehensive care than what they're giving and can even give at home. Plus, they can't watch OP 24/7, since they presumably have to work. So, over all this is a really bad plan of response to OP's suicidal thoughts, because it isn't treating or even addressing the cause. And making an attempt only takes seconds alone.

why waste thousands of dollars for a hospital visit when all they're going to di is make you worse than you were before you entered?

When you're 18 the debt is your own. And as far as I know hospital bills don't effect anything credit wise as I've ignored a $500 one for an entire year and have gotten an apartment since then. Just take yourself. Call the suicide hotline and they can send an ambulance to take you.

Am I the only one here who sees nothing wrong with the fact that the parents want OP to sleep in their room?

I'm not saying that it's a good idea not to get OP the care they need, but I just thought that having OP sleep in their room isn't a bad idea, as it rules out around 8 hours of time when they might choose to end their life and sleeping in the same room with people you care about can be very comforting.
