Today, I finished booking the non-refundable cruise for my wife and I to the Bahamas. I did this after confirming once again that my mother could take care of our son while we're away. An hour after I paid, she called back saying she mistook the dates and can't do it anymore. FML

What about a trusted friend nearby? Care.com is a website that has babysitters and nannies. Most of my daughter's friends have live in nannies that were hired from that website. Hire one for the time you are gone.

Do you have a trusted neighbor or family member who could care for your son while you're away? It was a rotten trick of your mother to bounce back and forth like that. When my grandmother was a alive, she would have fought tooth and nail to spend any and all time with my sister and me. I hope everything works out and you can have a marvelous, care free vacation!
