Simple solution. Do not use box dye. Not only did that happen but it destroys your hair ten times as much as salon color and you didn't even noticed that the women on the front was no longer a brunette? So I think you deserved this one.
I don't think you have a clue what you're talking about.
Box dye is the worst thing you can do to your hair. You pay more at a salon but it's better color and it does less damage.
Lady - a while ago, I decided that red looked great on my friends, and I'd go down that path. So, I dyed my hair with Henna (on blonde) and was a fire engine. Then, I thought cleverly I might just bleach it out... FAIL! My hair literally melted off and I ended up with a hard core dyke cut...If only FML had been around then. All I can say is I feel your pain
How could you not tell the box was opened already before you bought it? Herp derp. YDI.
...Or she bought the box unopened and there was a weird colour reaction with her hair. Herp derp.
Dye it half black for halloween, or an Oregon State game, just sayin

As a professional hair stylist I can safely say not to trust box color from the drug store it will never come out like the picture on the box and it cost more money in the long run to get that fixed
As a professional stylist, you're just looking to scare people into spending more money than they have to. I am not against having someone else colour my hair, but every time I've dyed my hair using the boxed brands, it's come out just fine. They give you guides on the side of the box to tell you what colour your hair should turn for a reason. Some people, depending on what colour their natural hair is or what colour they've dyed it may have issues (i.e. at home lightening to any colour from a medium brown to black) but for the most part, there usually isn't a huge discrepancy. And yes, my hair was already dyed when I had done the boxed colour.
Actually hair color is alot more complicated than ppl think yes she may have bought a medium brown but what color was her hair when she put the color on? That's why it went orange and it's not as simple as throwing another color over that's called a color correction you have to bleach/strip out the orange color and then fill it with the color she actually wanted which is very damaging to your hair and expensive otherwise she's just gonna mess it up again that's why there's professionals like me.
