Today, I barely woke up and remembered that I had to throw out the trash in the garbage shoot on my way to the elevator, I had my bag (which had my laptop) in one hand and the garbage in the other, I entered my car to discover I threw away my bag. FML

Always check before you throw stuff down there especially if your holdings valuable stuff

It may be broken, but it's worth a try. Go to your super and tell them you need access to the garbage (first floor) and dig through it to find your bag. If you're not too late, it should be at the top. You'll stink, but you'll have your laptop back...Though it may be broken...but at least no one else will have it, and access to all your files.

If it was in a padded bag it might even survive. Depending on how many floors up OP is. Either way this merely highlights the fact that multi tasking while still half asleep will almost always end badly.
