Today, I am covered in flea bites and can't sleep. My sister's cat brought fleas into the house three years ago, and my parents still haven't bothered to get rid of them. I can't afford to move out. FML

I feel like this is a health and safety hazard that could be reported. A home with people in it can't be infested with bugs, it could also potentially spread to neighbours if you have any. 3yrs though, that's insane, hell, at that point I'd be hiring an exterminator myself.

No offense, but your parents are morons. Who doesn't bother to get rid of pests after 3 years?

as a cheap solution get ant powder. it kills fleas around the house. it's a lot cheaper than a flea bomb and I found it a lot more effective too

I had fleas for a while and they suck i would tell your parents if they do nothing once again threaten to leave and where long cloth i would take long showers to avoid fleas

Dish soap, like dawn, kills fleas. Give the cat frequent baths with dish soap and a flea comb, which costs about $3.00. Then, rent a carpet shampooer for $15 and just use dish soap (not too much!) and water to shampoo the carpets. You can purchase a flea spray for about $5.00 and use it to spray down rugs and furniture to kill the eggs. It does take some work, but it is worth it, for both you and the cat.

There is a product called "vets best" that is a combo of peppermint and clove oil. Safe for all + kitty, smells pleasant. First, spray that everywhere. Look up "flea trap" on google. Dish soap/flat shallow pan of water/dish soap/lamp. At night they are attracted to the heat of the lamp, jump in and drown. Cheristen is flea control that actually works. (Advantage/frontline does not, the little buggers mutated to be immune), $15 a month. Solve your own problems! $25, google and a week of diligence. Problem solved...naturally. Good luck! Also, let this be a lesson to you. Don't be that passive schmuck who lets things become a disaster before your eyes. If you are old enough to post here, you are old enough to have googled/solved this problem yourself. Life favors those that choose, not those that wait for someone to choose their fate.

there are many ways to solve the flea problem. one that I've found cheap and effective is to mix a 5 lb bag of ordinary table salt with a 5 lb box of Borax. You may have to go to a few places to find the Borax, it's not as popular as it used to be. anyway, pour both into a bucket. do NOT add any water, but stir theme together for a few minutes. then sprinkle the mixture heavily on all carpets, rugs and furniture (under the cushions too). work the powder into the nap of the carpet with a broom or your foot. leave it there for at least 10-12 days. this will dehydrate the eggs and stop the flea life cycle. you also need to bathe the cat and put it on a flea and tick preventative. you can find these at most pet stores or at a veterinarian. good luck.btw, your parents are idiots.

then grow up and do it your self. bombs are about 15 dollars 3 cover most large houses. you could at least do that.

I thought fleas couldn't live that long off the host? unless the cat is still there and crawling with them.
