Its okay really, I once said ****** instead of organism whilst reading aloud and no one even remembered it by the next week. Hopefully people forget your incident as soon as mine did.
It's not that big of a deal. As long as you weren't using it to verbally attack/degrade someone, then it's just another word.
When I was in middle school and we read huck Finn out loud our teacher forced us all to say the n word when it came up. I don't know why. None of us were comfortable with it.
The simple answer is because your teacher was an asshole. Some teachers get off on making students do things that make them uncomfortable- and for good reason- under threat of punishment. Sounds like they were one of them.
I've tried to fight the urge to comment his, but I have to say it. "Innocent" implies that it is a good thing, and usually is portrayed as an attractive quality. "Naïve" means you lacked the knowledge and acted in blind faith on what knowledge you assumed you have. Considered a minor to moderate flaw. "Ignorant" means not knowing, and not bothering to think on the subject, form your own opinions, or gather your own information. A negative trait. Calling yourself 'innocent' seems a bit like you phrased this in a way to compliment yourself. Naïve is a better term for this case.
