Today, due to a health insurance mix up, my schizophrenic girlfriend has been off her meds for a little over a week. She's convinced I can read her mind, and if I don't stop "pretending" she'll slit my throat in my sleep. Her medication won't be available for at least another two weeks. FML

Eganstein tells us more.

Just an update, she is in the hospital doing better, and my throat is in tact. And for everyone telling me to leave her, its not gonna happen

Take her to the e.r. They have to give her medication when it is this serious

911! Urgent care! Psychiatric Emergency! Pick one! Death threats should not be taken lightly! Seriously, call 911! the hospital will have her meds.

I agree with olgakl. Love doesn't have a limit. It's a priceless emotion that can't be helped. Whether its a romantic love or family love. But a romantic love is something found whenever and wherever. So hang in there brother. If you love her, stick it out and get her help. If she's worth it it will all work out in the end. :)

Hope your girlfriend doesn't read this. Geez man, she can't help it. And all of you making stupid comments telling him to dump her or run away, grow up and learn what real love is.

If things do come down to you needing to force her into an ER, or other facility, try to have family or friends help you before calling the police. That could cause her to completely freak out and act irrationally violent.. Which cops do not take kindly to Kudos to you for being truly supportive

Put aluminum foil around your head and convince her that it works... No seriously though, find an ER that has an emergency psychiatric services and get her some meds. Then you need to decide if that's the type of relationship you want.

Dump her as fast as possible!!! this illness is horrible and will progress in the future.

Not if she's in treatment, dickbag. Would you ditch someone you loved just because he/she was ill?

Good to know, man. Coming from another mentally ill woman... you are a hero for sticking with her. Hope she'll get her meds regularly, that shit is important. I am miserable without mine.

She is very lucky to have someone like you. :) Bless you both.

OP, you are an awesome person. I wish you two all the best :)

Faith in humanity just increased by about 204% thanks to you, you shouldn't leave someone you love just because of an illness unless you physically or mentally cannot handle it

I can't believe some of these comments! It's sick how little some people understand about mental illness! This isn't a 'lol dump her man shes crazy' situation! This is someone with a psychiatric condition who should be treated with the same respect we give anyone else! Making juvenile jokes and telling him to run shows a complete lack of understanding for conditions like this as a whole. I spend so much time with people who have at least an amateur interest in psychology that I sometimes get shocked by how under-informed some people are.... OP, I respect you for telling them off. You can't abandon someone you love just because of troubled times.

Gahh why do my comments keep disappearing?
