Speed racer

Today, I got a speeding ticket. My speedometer got busted a few weeks back, rendering it useless. My father, a former mechanic, decided it's not worth the trouble of going in and fixing it. "Just keep with traffic when you're on the highway; you'll be fine." This $150 fee says otherwise. FML

YDI for not getting it fixed, regardless what your father said.

What if you're the only car on the street, on a school zone?

when you go to court say it had just broken, get it fixed and bring the receipt with a list of the repairs. it worked on a seatbelt ticket so it's worth a shot. or just skip your first trial date pay the fine and get a new trial date. then hope the cop doesn't feel like wasting his time on you for a second trial and maybe it will get thrown out. if not, fyl.

Maybe your father meant to say, "you'll be fined."

Sooo... did you listen to what your father said, and, you know, go the same speed as everyone else? Or did every single other person on the road get a ticket too?

If it's just the speedometer gauge, you can get something that plugs into your ODB-II port, and reads the speed out of the computer, provided your car is 1996 or newer. That's what I did for my van because it's speedometer was messed up.

You said he's a former mechanic, sure he knows how to fix it, but if he doesn't want to then you take it to another ******* mechanic. Are people that retarded?

what you do is you stay with the tractor trailers. They always go slow when around cop areas because they know those places because they drive those roads A LOT. I know that cuz I had a found on road dead car (ford) and everything broke on it. but on the bright side I now have a awesome TOYOTA that's runs flawlessly. And EVERYTHING works. **** ford. TOYOTA 4 LIFE!!

Make dad pay the ticket. That will show him just how "not worth it" it really is to get your speedometer fixed.

make your dad pay it. i'm a mechanic it would cost a lot less to fix it then the ticket is. it would also take less then an hour to replace the whole assembly if you need to go that far.

pay the fee and learn your lesson.. but definitely invest in a gps. never know when you'll need on and it shows your speed.

If you were keeping up with traffic you shouldn't be fined. Keeping up with traffic is perfectly legal.
