No dice

Today, I interviewed with a company 5 times over the course of 7 weeks. It was going really well and although not my dream job, it would provide a step up for my family. I got the offer letter at 1 PM! As I’m reading it, I realize it’s actually addressed to the other finalist. Sent to me, not for me. Offer rescinded. FML

While this segment of the search is probably over. There have been times when the company’s first choice declines and second choice gets the job. … While I never got the wrong letter, I once got the job the first choice turned down. It can happen - Don’t bet the rent on it, but it might not be over.

I interviewed at a company that when I was hired somewhere else, called me to let me know that their first hire didn’t work out. But before I got that call, they actually told me in another call that I was so close they had trouble figuring out which one to offer the job too and at least they gave me an explanation because they found it hard to pick one. The other one flaked out and wasn’t what they thought it was, they then offered me the position. Unfortunately I already got hired at Google at that time.
