County AND country

Today, I learned a state senator is pushing a law to prosecute women for murder if they have an abortion, even out of state. Miscarriages would be investigated for aggravated assault, and if deemed unintentional, life insurance benefits would still be denied. I fear for the women in my county. FML

I've been trying to warn people about the consequences of anti-intellectualism since before I even knew there was a word for it. More than 20 years ago, I was talking about poor reasoning skills and bad priorities (on all sides, mind you) making people vulnerable to authoritarianism and unable to effectively combat it. Nobody listened. I wouldn't ever expect to reach a sizable audience, but the absolute disinterest showed by those around me is reflective of society as a whole. I had a Facebook group for my ideology that, early on in Trump's first term, I repurposed into an ongoing guide on fascism, what we were confronted by, and information and knowledge I felt it important to disseminate. Nobody listened, again. I said overtly, that whenever the time came for him to go, whether by a loss in 2020 or the end of a second term in 2024, he would resist, and his extremist supporters would fight on his behalf. And sure enough, January 6 happened. And still, nobody listened. That needed to be taken far, far more seriously than it was. A much more serious effort needed to be made, to prevent him from running again. So at this point all I can say is, welcome to the consequences. And people still aren't listening or learning. Few people have any idea how this happened, or how it's happening. So frankly, it's difficult for me to care.

They would have been, had the bill progressed further than being introduced. It happened on February 5th, 2025. Sen. Brandon Shippy (a Republican/Trumpanzee, naturally) introduced the bill in Idaho. Every Republican on the committee voted to introduce it calling it "philosophically and morally sound." This is nothing short of attempted subjugation of women by our politicians. That they would even suggest such a thing is purely evil. Fortunately, they decided not to progress it any farther, but the fact that he had the gall to introduce a bill as absurd as this should be deeply concerning. You can easily find the bill online. Just look up RS31837 / S1059 and maybe try educating yourself before putting someone down for rightly being concerned about the direction the US is headed.

So, if someone doesn't agree with your politics, they are "Anti-intellectual." Got it. It must be exhausting, always being the smartest person in every room.
