Today, while driving my new car, a squirrel ran in front of me so I slammed on my brakes. The person behind me didn't notice and rear-ended me. The squirrel got hit by a car going the opposite direction. FML

Hmmm... that's why you don't "slam on your brakes" for small rodents:(

You're supposed to keep driving unless it's a animal that can cause an accident, like a deer. Otherwise, surprise surprise, the abruptent stop can cause an even bigger accident than hitting a squirrel. I'm 16 and I know this.

I've seen this FML before. Shame the original was deleted. As I said in the last one, YDI for interfering with natural selection.

squirrels are stupid and deserve to die

no worries.. there are a few million more to take it's place :)

At least, you don't have blood on your new car, just a bunch of dents.

OP must be female!!!!! hit the ******* squirrel, don't brake for animals, and don't cause traffic jams. brake/swerve for a moose or large game, not small rodents.

dumb ass that squirrel won't pay for your damaged car or brain!

I am an absolute animal lover, and just the thought of hitting an animal while driving is one of my fears while driving- especially for pets like cats and dogs. Even though It would take a lot to forgive myself, Sad thing is, unless you can safely slow down- especially at higher speeds - you just have to keep going and hope you don't hit them. I wouldn't say this is a YDI or a FYL, it just is a sad situation.

you should never slam on the brakes or swerve to miss hitting anything unless it's a person or a big animal that would do damage to your car. next time, let off the accelerator and risk hitting the animal instead of having another car accident.
