Toxic workplace

By schnegg - This FML is from back in 2016 but it's good stuff - Switzerland

Today, the firm I work at informed all the employees about our annual staff trip. So, we're going to a tomato festival and everything is already planned and booked. I'm allergic to tomatoes. FML

How bad is your allergy? I'm sure you don't have to go, especially considering your circumstances but maybe you could go without touching or eating anything there? Then again that would be pretty boring I guess :/

Did you tell them you're allergic? If not YDI. You can't expect someone to know what you're allergic to. Plus telling them after the fact, if they didn't know, is a dick move on your part. Alternatively, if you DID tell them and they deliberately scheduled it with that fact in mind, then YLS. That's a dick move on their part.

Just use some excuse on the morning they all leave for the trip, and say you'll ketchup with them.

I can't eat raw tomatoes. I like salsa, ketchup, catsup and pasta sauce but just cannot stomach raw tomatoe, they just crawl back up. I feel your pain, tomatoes suck.

I completely sympathize with you, I have the same allergy as you! It is a really difficult allergy because most people don't know about it. Try to talk to your company and explain the allergy. They need to accommodate your needs.

No offense to you tomato enthusiasts out there, but am I the only one who thinks there are much better work trips than going to a tomato festival?

Im sure you can stand at the sidelines and cheer your colleagues on.

It's not like you have to eat them. Stop whining, go and explore the area around you!

Are you so allergic that you can't breathe the same air in the space they occupy? Just don't eat them? Lol

To answer some questions: I can't eat tomatoes at all and my skin also reacts in contact with the juice. It's a festival where people will also throw tomatoes for sure... I'm the new one at our company and therefore was excited about the trip. I thought that would be a great occasion to socialise with my colleagues. Now I have to tell my boss, that I'm not able to come along or they have to change the whole trip. Both alternatives make me feel like the grinch (although I know that I can't be blamed for it).
