Today, my 19-year-old son told me his girlfriend is pregnant, and was diagnosed with an STD. He's sure that he's the father. He's also sure he doesn't have an STD, because he's a virgin. I had to give him the sex talk that his school never did, as well as explain to him that his girlfriend is a cheater. FML

Why do parents expect the school to do everything for them? It's not their job to teach your child about sex so YDI

Most schools won't teach sex education anymore because parents were outraged, saying that's "their job." However, as we see here, that doesn't always work. This kid never figured it out.

My mom bought the embarrassing books and made sure I knew the consequences of having sex. Was it fun for her? I'm sure it wasn't. Was it her kicking ass as a parent? Yes. It's not the school's problem.

My class was given a series of sex talks one in 5th grade, one in 9th grade and another one in 10th grade...not to mention the three sex talks we got in religion. Two in 8th grade and one in 10th grade.

I'm betting that many readers in the Deep South breathed a huge sigh of relief that this story was from Michigan. As the story unfolded, I can imagine many people saying to themselves, "Please don't be from here!"

I'm from MI, and I'm shocked. He was trying to claim responsibility for that child? He must not be native to us.

I know some schools will let students skip sex ed if their parents sign a slip saying it is for "religious reasons," which I find absolutely ridiculous. It is the parents responsibility to teach them at home, but since some parents fail to do so, it should be mandatory at school. No offense OP, but this is more of a **** your sons life.

Sounds like he was dating a really classy girl. Thank god he didn't know what sex was or you and your son could be really screwed. What type of STD? Hopefully herpes, the gift that keeps on giving, she certainly deserves it.

Her future unsuspecting sex partners don't.

Did he never got to experience the Internet?

At least he told you and not one of his friends

He can still get an STD without having intercourse. I hope OP is smart enough to know that as well.
