Today, I saw a little old lady trying to cross the street. I went over and tried to help her. Turned out she was actually just a really short young woman. As soon as I took her arm, she screamed in front of everyone and accused me of trying to molest her. FML

I think you were suppose to ask her if she needs help first.

Why would you grab her arm without asking her first?

Simple 'Help' checklist: 1) Does the Other want and need help? 2) Does the Other ask for help? 3) Are you able to help the Other? 4) If Answer is 'Yes' to all of the above... Proceed. YDI.

If something like that would've happened here in India, you'd be beaten to death by the crowd.

Alberta Canada eh? I'm from there and have never left. It's a great province right OP?

Do you look like a molester? Do you have a mustache?? Not everyone with a mustache is a rapist... But every rapist has a mustache...???

Good intentions, OP. Although, I'd usually ask if the person would like some help first. Hopefully you were able to explain. FYL.

No good deed goes unpunished. P.S. I . lalalove that Ypure from Canada. I'm surprised a flock of people weren't trying to help her.

"Shh. Just let it happen, just go with it." Lol. Weird.

to be honest, even if it was an older woman you should have asked before just grabbing her arm.

Does the lack of a period at the end bother anyone else?

Well, to be fair, OP, should've asked before touching her arm. It's rude to touch people randomly and it catches them off guard. But she didn't have to accuse you of molestation, though. That's just strange. At least you were coming from a good place, though. Just think things through more next time.

He didn't just touch her arm, he grabbed it. If he had just touched her arm, then yes, I'd say she was overreacting, but generally when a strange man grabs a young women on the streets arm, he doesn't have the kindest intentions.

You're right in the sense that from her perspective, it would have been scary, but nowhere did he say that he grabbed her arm. He could have just taken her arm lightly and she was frightened, which while still understandable, wouldn't call for an accusation. But the point is, molestation isn't someone taking hold of your arm so the fact that she felt the need to blurt out molestation seems a bit weird to me. A normal scream would be more understandable, but then again people react differently in different situations.
