Today, I let my dogs out, and then realized they didn't have their electric fence collars on. I ran inside to get the collars, then dashed out to put them on my dogs. I ran through the electric fence. The collars were on. FML

well if they didn't have their collars they'd get lost and end up in a shelter or dead

who let the dogs out! woof! woof! this dumb op did lol

maybe their neighbor has 40 bunnies running loose and the entire fence line is a bunch of bunny holes the dog runs through.. and the owner is keeping them safely in their yard because of the 2 lg. dogs next door.. just saying.. and shock collars train the dog, my dog never gets zapped and has almost 2 acres of free roaming, safe area.

There are too many fights on this page. It's a simple YDI for being stupid, and running into the electric fence. There's no karma or animal abuse involved here. OP made a dumb mistake and got hurt for it. Can't we just agree with that and move on with our lives?

while it's true that some of these dont give more than a startling jolt that doesn't hurt the dog anymore than a small static shock hurts a person, sometimes they can malfunction, and some are made to actually shock. i dont agree with the latter. i have owned dogs for about 15 years (i'm 20), and i've never had trouble training my dogs. i give them treats for good behavior and when they listen to a command (sit, for example) until they do it on their own. if they do something wrong, i point at them and say "No" in a very firm voice. if they, say, growl at someone or if i catch them in the act of using the bathroom on the floor, i swat them on the nose or butt (like you would swat the hand or rear of a child) and tell them "No." but you should never punish a dog for something that it's done, not something that it's doing. It will get confused and think whatever it had been doing when you punished it was what it did wrong. Most don't understand we're punishing them for something they did five minutes ago. all in all, OP, if it hurt that bad, don't use it on your dog. if you wouldn't use it on yourself, then don't use it on your dog. to an extent. not sure i'd put frontline on myself :P

shame on you for providing comedy for your pets ;(

Haha I knew there would be a buncha PETA comments.... Get over it people! It's a training method, like spanking a child

YDI. If it was so bad that you feel it's an FML, then imagine what it must be like for the poor dogs. If you're going to have dogs, make sure you've got a proper enclosed yard and non-abusive training methods.
