Today, my girlfriend's overprotective parents decided that I'm a bad influence on their daughter. I'm a straight A engineering student who openly speaks out against drugs, alcohol, and discrimination. Their reason? Someone told them I dyed my hair black. They think I'm a "closet Nazi". FML

whatever you do - DO NOT post your cats photo to the "cats that look like hitler" website then email them the link. try loosening up a bit. talk less about how terrible drugs and booze are and more about your plans for your engineering education. long term goals. and if your anti discrimination, why openly discriminate against people who just want a beer or two on occasion? it's all about moderation you know.

Parents like that don't want anyone near their daughter, either because they think nobody is good enough or they're petrified that somebody may corrupt their 'pure' angel. It wouldn't matter if you were sent from the bosom of the archangel Gabriel, they would have found some reason, either exaggerated from reality or outright imagined, to find fault with you and deem you unworthy. The sad part is that the daughter inevitably winds up with mental issues over this and the parents are either blissfully unaware of their role in that or in total denial because, in their mind, they were doing what's right and it had to be someone else's fault. Cliff Notes version: save yourself the headache and dump her. It will only get worse from here.
