Today, I bought a device that plays a high-pitched sound to teach my dog to quit barking. She's smart enough to learn that as long as she barks loud enough and long enough, she can't hear it. Quite the opposite effect to what I was anticipating. FML

I would take it off. There are other ways to train your dog not to bark. You just need time to teach her.

fill a spray bottle with water and spray her wit it every time she barks, it worked on all the dogs i have ever had. :)

Shock collars don't correct the problem, they just make the dog fearful which could cause aggression depending on the nature of the dog.

If you have a dog that's hyper enough or big enough, a shock is the only way to get their attention. My aunt has a dog that... Ye gods she does not stop. Shock collar works to get her attention so proper discipline/reward process can occur.

You could set up an elaborate alarm system that would blow the whistle whenever a door was opened,causing the dog to bark to scare away any intruders
