atleast it wasn't a gun there is alot to be thankful for haha =)
wow. way to be an ass.
Oh, sweetheart. YDI for the laughter, but if he's been diabetic for any amount of time at all he'll shrug it off.
lol, thats as awesome as it is presumptuous and mean. The purse thing I mean, I wish I knew the inflection she said it with. Though the reaction is not surprising, I carry around a hand-bag for my netbook and various cables I like to keep handy, its been compared to a "purse" several times. I have a sense of humor though, and shrug it off. I guess we just haven't reached the point where men can carry around anything but a suitcase or laptop bag. Hopefully he found it amusing on both counts, otherwise hes probably just not compatible with OP's glib sense of humor.
it's fun to comment on peoples replies though.
and then he died a horrible death
that was a jerk move on your part, but he shouldn't be handling blood all out in the open on a first date. Unless of course he was feeling dizzy, in which case he still should have said something before whippin out lancets and test strips lol. It's just common courtesy man!
diabetics usually give themselves a schedule for when they test their blood sugar. and it's not like he was whipping out a needle to draw blood from his arm or anything, probably just a little thing like those you see behind the pharmacy counter. and also, OP said he pulled it out of the side door, so being that it was in the car, it was in private. he probably didn't even realize that she would think anything about it.
Also, you have to take meters and insulin with you when you go out, in case of low blood sugar, grabbing food, getting stranded etc. Most diabetics are quick and discreet. My meter takes five seconds to do a test, and I can draw blood, put it on strip, lick the remaining blood off and still have nearly all the countdown to go. When injecting, I find a quiet place away from people (to avoid being jogged and breaking my needles) then put my hand around the lower part of my insulin pen so people don't have to see. Provided I don't hit a capillary (it happens occassionally) I'm very discreet.
Actually, as a diabetic you have to check your blood sugar at a certain time(mostly every three hours), before each meal(I assume this date was at some dining place), or yes, when you feel dizzy. Just because you don't like the fact that they have to handle their blood out in the open means they're going to stop. Of course the questions about pricking your finger are annoying, but it's that, or not knowing what your blood sugar is, getting hypoglycemia(Excuse me if I'm wrong, I still can't figure out which is which, by this I mean low) or if it's Hyperglycemia(high blood sugar) and possibly getting sick and/or fainting/slip into a diabetic coma.
Yes, that last part did happen, I stopped checking at school because I got annoyed by the looks, fainted and was in a coma for a week. Stupidity on my part, now I check everyday when I specifaclly have to.
DIESINBLOOD: you got hypo and hyper the right way round. However, a 'diabetic coma' is what happens when your blood sugar gets too high, and the body shags out - the diabetic is difficult or impossible to rouse without insulin. When it gets too low, that's called severe hypoglycemia. The diabetic or hypoglycemic is fairly easy to rouse and may come out of it naturally within a few hours.
Actually, in hypoglycemia if the diabetic doesn't get sugar, they will die. There is no naturally coming out of it.

Nice, not only was the joke bad to begin with but then you find out he is a diabetic, you kind of deserved that one.
wow. kind of explains why you were on a date instead of in a relationship...
