Today, while riding my bike on the sidewalk, I came across a ladder. To avoid bad luck, I swerved around it into the street. I got hit by a car. FML

Hmmm go under a ladder and risk having bad luck, or go onto a street with cars going past. Your logic is strange OP. Lets hope it was worth it.

Why not go around the ladder the other way? Swerving onto the grass or whatever was on the other side of it? Unless the street and ladder were at the edge of a cliff, there really isn't an excuse for choosing the oncoming traffic of doom.

My guess is the ladder was up against something (e.g. a building) and not just suspended in mid-air where OP could take 2 ways around it.

Silly superstition...don't you know they're all made up? Maybe next time you should stop, get off the bike, and walk it around the ladder. Save yourself lots of pain

In some areas, if you don't have a bicycle license, it's also illegal to be in the street.

Unless there's a bike lane or there's a sign saying bikes can go on the road, it's acceptable to ride your bike on the sidewalk.

Crazy thought...cars in the street ???? that's why people say look both ways before crossing the street. Sorry to say you deserve that one for not looking before going into the road

some places the sidewalk is the only place to ride ur bike. i wouldnt ride a bike in the road in my town. id rather not get ran over. OP ydi cuz what kind of idiot would swerve into traffic for a ladder that doesnt actually give u bad luck if u go under it
