Today, one of my best friends went into labor 14 days early. I'd told my boss previously about this and that I need to be there for my friend as she doesn't really have any family. My boss will not let me leave work to be there. Why? I didn't give enough notice. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, despite having my 5-day-leave approved 2 months ago, my boss demanded I return to work in the middle of it. Why? She wants to go on a vacation and no one else is available at such short notice. FML
Understandable
Today, my manager made me stay at work for an extra four hours, making me miss an urgent specialist appointment I'd scheduled months ago. Why? Because her neighbor's dog was having puppies, and she wanted to go home early and see them. FML
Today, I was called to be told I'm fired for not showing up for my shift. I guess she didn't check her voice message to see that I gave birth last night. FML
Today, at work my boss told me I have been late, under-productive, and using up a lot of sick days. He says my job is on the line. My reason for barely showing up at work: I've been on maternity leave for 6 weeks. FML
The sociopaths amongst us
Today, my boss is such an unfeeling asshole that he seriously thought he could demand I only stay at my best friend's funeral for 45 minutes then return to work, because it was “just a friend, not a relative', and that when his mother died he "took a whole 2 hours off and was back at work by 11:45.” FML
Today, the father of my unborn child told me he isn't sure he'll be able to make it to the birth, since there's no guarantee of when it will happen, so he can't schedule time off. This would be understandable if he actually had a job. FML
Emergency
Today, I called into work because of a family emergency. My boss was understanding; my coworker? He tore me a new one because his wife wanted him to take the day off, which he didn't because it was going to be a tough day at work. He also threatened to find a way he could get me fired. FML
Bosses gonna boss
Today, I talked to my boss about scheduling my urgently needed surgery. She asked me to wait until after Christmas, and told me that I should use vacation time instead of sick leave. She's also not going to give me the total paid time off my contract specifies, because it's "inconvenient." FML
Come on, man
Today, a manager isn't taking to me because I didn't give the 8-week notice period to go on Emergency Service leave for a few days during a bush fire crisis. FML
Today, I was told at my babysitting job that I can't bring my toddler with me. My employer is my best friend. Now I have to find a babysitter for my kid if I want to babysit hers. FML

I'm really confused by half of these comments. She gave her boss advance notice that her friend would be having a baby. Hate to break it to you, but babies don't care much about our schedules, and will come out when they're ready. Due dates are a rough estimate, and very few people actually have their baby on the due date the doctor gave them. Maybe she should have kept her legs closed? There is no explanation as to the circumstances behind this birth. For all you know, she could be married, but her husband is deployed, so her best friend wants to be there for her. And nothing here says she can't handle parenthood. I know that if m husband weren't able to be there, I'd want my best friend with me. That doesn't mean I won't be a good parent. You guys are beyond ignorant and I pray to God you never have children. OP, yeah this does suck, but like #4 says, your boss isn't obligated to let you off. Sorry

So you leave anyway, take a day of absence. Vomit and claim you have swine flu. Start chewing off your arm, etc.

Tell your boss if he doesn't let you go you are going to pee on his face ever day until his wife has a baby than you are going to make him stay at work that day, and do your work while you pee on his face

You can make it up to her by being there some nights so that she can get some sleep. 14 days is nothing. That little one should be fine.

Yes, your boss does have the right not to let you go. But it's good that you didn't fake it because he/she probably would have figured out you left to see your friend and could have fired you. I have never experienced child birth so I don't know what its like. But I can imagine it is a very stressful and emotional time. So everyone who's saying if she can't deal with this then she shouldn't be pregnant. SHUT UP! Pregnancy is diffrent for everyone so where it might have been easy for you or someone else you know, that doesn't mean it's easy for everyone else. Maybe she wanted the comfort of another person there. And #46 UR A F***ING BITCH! GO F*** YOURSELF. U REALLY PISSED ME OFF.

@16:I'm pretty sure that ur an idiot too then because abortion is not when the baby dies in te womb, it's when the baby bassicly getss killed in the womb, like if the mother got pregnat at like 16, she could get an abortion so she would have to have the baby.....

Your comment : Wow, 79. You're quite the jackass aren't you? Having a baby IS special. Hopefully, you don't ever have any to realize how "un-special" it is. Rude.
