Today, I found out that my parents changed the code on our alarm system while they were out of town. The police could not verify I was their son, despite spending hours trying to get hold of them. They thought it was just another telemarketer. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I received a message from front desk that my concerned father is trying to contact me. I call only to hear that my parents were freaking out that I wasn't answering my phone. They saw me 9 hours ago. They were going to call the police. I'm in college and also don't live with them anymore. FML
Busted
Today, I was approached by a policeman who asked me if I was the owner of the green Camry. Turns out my parents decided to teach me a lesson for lying where I had been by reporting the car stolen. They also wouldn't answer my one phone call. FML
Thanks mom
Today, I checked my inbox and realized I got an email from a potential employer, saying they were having trouble getting a hold of me by phone. They called while my mom was using my phone to look up directions to a place, and she answered, kindly hanging up when they asked for me. FML
Bad day
Today, I accidentally set off an alarm at the school I work for. No one was there, I didn't have the code or password the company needed, my boss wouldn't answer his phone, three policemen interrogated me and asked for ID, but realized I left home without my wallet. There was nothing I could do. I cried. FML
Reported
Today, I found a cellphone. I went through the contacts and called the one listed as "Dad" to inform them I could leave it at a cash register of the store I found it in, or take it to the police station so they could pick it up. They then called the police, insisting I stole it. FML
PARTAY!
Today, I threw a party while my parents were gone. I forgot that our alarm automatically turns on at 11 pm, so when people opened the door, it went off. I couldn't find the number for the alarm company, so the cops showed up. Everyone started cheering because they thought they were strippers. FML
Who is this and what do you want?
Today, out of nowhere, several spam calls started calling my cellphone number. Every single one of them about health insurance. I didn't know why they were calling me or how they got my number. After a bit of questioning, it turns out my dumb dad used my name and cellphone number while trying to look for info. FML
I don't know, leave me alone
Today, my mom and dad went off somewhere for some alone time together. My mom had apparently turned her phone off and my dad left his at home. In that span of time, my brother had accidentally locked himself out of his house, and my sister was also trying to get a hold of them, and now are asking me where they're at. FML
Mind your own business
Today, I found out that my parents are in trouble because they left me home alone for almost two weeks (I'm 16) and my Karen neighbor found out and called social services. FML
Waste of time
Today, at around 11 p.m., the police made a visit to my house, explaining how my neighbors had thought I was using a universal remote to change their television channels. FML

Your parents sound like they're not very good at being parents. I feel sorry for you.

Rob your own house for fun.

Even if he wanted to do that for whatever reason, OP is apparently incapable of 'breaking and entering.'

I feel like it was an honest mistake. OPs parent's could be out of town for business reasons or some alone time. Leaving their phones unattended.
SApprentice 34
It could have been an honest mistake, but it doesn't read like it to me. If OP is still underage, which I'm assuming here since they live at home, then his/her parents should be more concerned. Parents shouldn't just go out of town and then ignore eight hours worth of phone calls. That's a lot of time, and lot of calling. They should be more concerned than that, because something could be wrong. Forgetting to update OP on the change in passcode is forgivable, but not ignoring the calls. It seems very dismissive of them, at least to me.

#17 it doesn't says anywhere that Op lives with them 24/7.... It could be he came to visit his parents and they went out somewhere on a trip and didn't need to tell password to Op then. & about 8 hr phone calls, donno about anyone else but my family don't receive any business calls on family time as well, even if its for week or two. -_-

25, op did say "our" alarm system. suggesting that he is in some way connected to the ownership of it. if he was "just visiting", he probably would of said "their" alarm system. besides, why would he "just visit" when they were out of town?

You're parents really thought that "hello this is Officer_____ is *your name* really your son?" was a telemarketer?
yahoowizard 16
I feel the parents never picked up
LevyLove 17
I believe the OP is saying that the parents never picked up any of the calls during those 8 hours because they thought it was just a telemarketer phone raping them. I was really confused at first too.
PhishloverA 14
#5 the parents never picked up hence OP spending hours trying to get a hold of them

A great set of parents you got there.

Either their phones were dead, you didn't leave a message, or they straight up ignored you because of whatever reason. Either way you look at it, fyl.
cosmosis 12
... Or maybe it was because "they thought it was just another telemarketer" like OP stated in the FML. Just a thought
Soloman212 28
43, his points are still valid, as the proper protocol for avoiding telemarketer calls is to never charge your phone in the first place. Preemptive strike!
SanityIsOverated 3
How would you think it's a telemarketer unless op didn't leave a message. I'm just saying there probably wasn't a message left.
kickass1stbase 7
They should have realized that a telemarketer would not continue to call for 8 hours...
htownpostman 16
The fact that the cops stayed in front of the house for 8 hours is equally shocking
TheMathMajor 26
I'm thinking they would have taken OP to the station.

I think now is the time to invest in a cell phone so they have a number they recognize!

Maybe this was their way of saying that's it's time for you to move out?
