Check labour laws - Depends on your country, but in most this would be considered illegal. If you were retrenched, you have to be the 1st person approached if your job becomes available again, and at the same comparable rate.

If you're in the States, you can draw unemployment at half your pay, right? They're wanting to pay you half for working just as hard, hell, let them pay you half to look for decent work, instead.
