Today, the last person I invited to my birthday party called and said they couldn't come because another party "came up" and they "hope I understand". It's on December 31st. This happens every year without fail. FML

This happens occasionally to me because my birthday is on Valentines day, and it turns out people would rather have some romantic ******* than celebrate my birthday! But FYL

Just don't have your party on the 31st. My birthday is the 30th, and sometimes if I can't have my party on that day for some reason, I'll have it the day before (like today) but never on the 31st, or sometimes even a few weeks before/after. I had my 18th party in early February and my 21st in late January, coz when I was in uni a lot of my uni friends would go home for the Christmas holidays (in Australia our biggest holidays are over Christmas).

oh come on, it's not that hard. on nye, people want to celebrate nye, not go to some birthday party. just have your party a week later - you get two nights out, so you hardly lose out. if this has happened before, then YDI for not learning from your mistakes. my birthday is near christmas and i learnt how to plan my nights out to fit the holidays years ago.

YDI. You know what time of the year it is. If your birthday party is so important to you, you need to schedule it for after the new years when people don't have plans already. You know every year is Christmas and New Years right at this time, it never changes.

Dude, you don't have to have your birthday party on your birthday. i know it sucks to have your birthday on holidays. Mine's right on thanksgiving weekend. But seriously. How stupid can you be to have a birthday party on dec. 31st? just have it the weekend before or after.

YDI. Have you considered having your birthday part BEFORE or AFTER the holidays? I have 3 cousins who's birthdays fall around Christmas (1 is Christmas Day, the other two are a few days later), and they usually have their parties a couple of weeks before or a few weeks after Christmas, so as not to interfere with their friend's plans. You might think of giving that a try some time.
