Friends in need…

Today, I made a trip that would usually takes three hours, but took over five thanks to holiday traffic, to comfort my best friend after another breakup with her horrible boyfriend. We'd planned to go and watch the fireworks; instead she completely ghosted me in this strange town so she and him could "work things out." FML

You seem to be putting more into the friendship than she does. Does she do more than just use you for emotional support?

I think you appear to be be acting as if you are wanting and expecting something more from the relationship than “just friends.” And your “friend” seems to have no interest in that. … You cannot make a person see you in a romantic way that is not interested in you like that. It’s time to either back off or go for it and tell her that you’d like the relationship to be more. That will eventually eliminate a lot of potential disappointment.

Your friend is signaling to her boyfriend that he can continue to treat her badly and she will continue to make him her top priority. you need to tell your friend good luck, hope it works out for you and that you are obviously not a priority in her life
