They may have been "identical" but plastic and glass usually feel different, so op should have been able to feel a difference between the two.

I've done something similarish. I was used to riding horses that were 16+ hh (big horses) and my friends horse was acting up so she asked me to fix her so I go to get on her horse which is 14.2 (borderline a pony) I place my foot in the stirrup and end up using my normal strength to haul myself up aaannnddd over until I'm sitting in the dirt on the other side.

I can just see it. Sitting there, enjoying your meal when suddenly you just grab your iced tea and throw it on your face. To anybody else you would have looked insane. Haha
