Today, I realized the only way I can pay my bills this month is if I steal from my 8 year old's birthday money. FML

You need to provide. Money can be replaced later.

Been there before. Several times! I always pay them back though

I just realized that this FML is really a Roschach test for our sense of our locus of control, often breaking down between those feeling we fundamentally have control over our destiny and those believing instead that we are largely hapless in the face of forces greater than ourselves that we must find some way to endure. And that is kind of cool.

Just say ur holding on to it so its safe. (He'll forget soon enough)

What is wrong with you?! Poor kid!

He'll be even more "poor" if OP can't afford to put any more meals on the table. I agree that s/he shouldn't steal from him, and should ask him instead, but if s/he's got to provide for the kid somehow.

Just borrow, ask him for it, don't you dare steal from your child, it will scar him...

Who gives 8 year olds enough for bills? All I've ever seen was toys and an occasional $2 bill.

Theses days kids often get so much on a day to day basis that money or gift cards are a better gift choice. My nephew usually has 6 or 7 kids at a birthday party. That plus myself, his mother, our other sister, our mother and grandmother if we all gave him money (based on the average of $20 or $30 that we would normally spend on a gift) he could get something between $220 and $360 for his birthday. And that's just from his mother's side. $220 could absolutely pay any bill

#67 - That's the amount I got for graduating! I wish I was 8 again!

What if op was $10 short on bills this month? When I was five I had $50 saved up from getting $2 a week. It could be like that too.

how will he not know?? he's 8. not 3.

I may sound harsh, but I feel that it came to this point due to lack of planning or preparation.

You should ask your child if you can borrow the money. My mother always asked me because she taught me not to steal. I loved her and didn't care about the money, because I wasn't raised to be posessive. She always paid me back, with an extra $10 even. :)

Thank you for this comment. I hate that most people think their wants are actually needs. You don't NEED junk food, you don't NEED cable. You NEED to pay your other bills! So many people are shocked to learn that we don't have cable at my house, and it's outrageous that they think they couldn't live
