Woke of the day

Today, I finally found the courage to confront my Native American parents, who happily celebrate Thanksgiving every year, even though it's a holiday about genocide. They rolled their eyes and said, "Fine. Don't come, we don't want a killjoy like you at dinner." FML

Uh no, that's the problem... we've whitewashed the history into pleasant mythology with all the happy stories about Miles Standish and the Pilgrims... but it was not a nice dinner for the indigenous peoples involved.

If you live in a native American community get the elders involved, that's basically committing treason amongst the community. Any native Americans I've known over the years, Thanksgiving was a very touchy subject and any native Americans celebrating it would be considered a traitor to their community.

Is it possible your parents just want their family over for a nice dinner? Without all your ******* opinions? If you'll recall, at The First Thanksgiving, pilgrims and natives had a nice dinner. BTW, save your anger for when you're old and everything hurts. While you're young, enjoy love, sex, optimism for F sake. You'll be ground to an angry nub soon enough.

It is a horrible reminder of history but they may just want a reason to invite family over.
