Today, my mother let me borrow a vintage book that was very special to her. After promising to keep it safe and taking it to school, one of my friends snatched it from my hands and dropped it in a puddle. FML

Yeah, that isn't a friend. That's someone who's using you. Hell, depending on laws in your are, I'd take the little shit to small claims court. That said, generally if something is that important, it's best not to leave the house with it- even if you won't lose or damage it, there's always the one douche that thinks, "I'm going to destroy this person's property for my own amusement!" And, unfortunately, punching said scourges against humanity in the face until they realize that their sense of humor sucks and so do they, is frowned upon.
