Mansplaining is a real thing. It's explaining something to a woman because she is a woman even though you have no reason to think that she needs it explained to her. Especially if you have evidence that she would reasonably know that you are explaining. Someone who explains spark plugs to a female mechanic or stuff like that. I can't know if you do it, but just because it's a new word doesn't mean it's not real.
So then women womansplain to men. You have no idea how many times I have heard women explain something to men like the guy was an idiot.
Prime example: mothers telling the father how to do something they obviously know how to do.
Completely agree and since it goes both ways I’m unsure why the words “mansplaining” and “womansplaining” exist. Both are just another way of saying patronising or condescending. The sex of the idiot shouldn’t matter.
You dodged a bullet. An intelligent woman is not a feminist because they know 3rd wave is all a lie to gain more power for women. Fond an egalitarian woman. They are sane individuals who don't follow the pack or live in an echo chamber. Dump her. BTW I am an egalitarian woman and we rock.
Power differentials and societal structures matter. Feminists don't want to rule men like men ruled women in the past, but if they are passive and don't call the biased shit out then the inertia of our society will stop actual egalitarian gender relations from happening.
That reply was entirely directed at Mynxie's comment. Whether or not OP's ex tried to explain power differentials has no bearing on how wrong Mynxie's comment is.
Feminist or not, a relationship can't survive without good communication and it sounds like neither of you have that. Take some time to listen to her a little more so she doesn't believe you're "mansplaining" things to her, but if she doesn't make an effort to understand and do the same, she obviously isn't as invested as you in the relationship. In that case it's time to move on and find someone with the same beliefs as yourself.
