Today, my father told my siblings and I that he has another child by someone who isn't my mother. My brother says 'yay, I'm an uncle.' He's 14. FML

It's okay OP! My little brother keeps thinking my newborn daughter is his new sister. He's 7 years old, I told him many times that she's not his sister but his niece. He will say "okay" but still tells everyone that's his sister anyway. Lol. I tried. But I hope you and your siblings get along with your new half sibling!

The reason it's an FML is because it sounds like the Dad cheated (could be a previous marriage but to me it sounds like he cheated) and also that the brother thinks he is an uncle, a 14 year old should know that his Dad's other children are his brothers or sisters which does not make him an uncle

I'm not too sure where the FML is in this... Did your dad cheat and have a child? That would be an FML, of course, but where does your brother come in? Is this a child from a previous relationship? In that case, surely then it's more of a good thing that you have a half-sibling than a bad one that your brother isn't too hot on family nomenclature.

Humm... The header of this page says "give us your opinion in the comments to help it get to the status of actual FML… or not!" but when you do, you get mod'ed. Is something stuck on auto-pilot here? Anyway, trying to re-phrase: I don't understand this entry. Did your dad cheat and have a child? That would be an FML, of course, but where does your brother come in? Is this a child from a previous relationship? In that case, surely then it's more of a good thing that you have a half-sibling than a bad one that your brother isn't too hot on family nomenclature. Maybe a follow-up to clarify would be in order.

Thanks Alan Is there a different moderation system for this vs the main board? The purpose seems different so perhaps the rules should be too. PS #5 - you will see that I discussed both of those options above.
