Ice for the first day, 15-20 minutes at a time. Starting the second day you can use a warm wet washcloth on it. Don't lay flat- have some extra pillows when you lay down. No straws. After the first day, gently rinsing with a teaspoon of salt dissolved in a cup of water will help. If your pain last longer than your doctor projected, is overly severe, or your jaw movement is more restricted than it should be, call your doctor.
